Mended Hearts Programme
The Mended Hearts Support Group was established in Cape Town in 2006, in partnership with Life Healthcare, with the goal of providing a meeting place for people who have experienced a cardiovascular event, as well as their supporting family members and friends, and members of the public who are interested in learning more about heart disease and stroke. The monthly group aims to give educational support and advice to survivors, to prevent a second event from occurring.
The HSF invites speakers ranging from cardiologists, to chefs, to biokineticists to present on relevant health topics. Mended Hearts groups now exist in Durban and Port Elizabeth.
Sufferers of cardiovascular events can feel isolated and nervous when confronted with lots of new information about their condition. They may feel the need for support to learn more about how to care for their health, and to hear from others who may have gone through the same experience.
